#81 Do 1 Homework Assignment In Advance

Make it 2! With an impending move, I decided I better get my assignments from last week done ASAP. Usually, I do my assignments the night before or the day of because I am Master Procrastinator. So, this goal is actually a fairly big step for me. (Now, if I could only do all my assignments in advance).

By Friday afternoon, I had my lesson plan for my Tuesday class done and 2 reviews of professional articles completed for my Thursday class. By last night I had a chapter read for my Thursday class.

I think it's a little bit easier to do these assignments ahead of time because they are either interesting, usable in my future classroom, or important to what I'm trying to learn. Writing a lesson plan is going to probably come in handy somewhere along the line, so it's a lot easier to sit down and do it.

Still, I have to give myself a nice pat on the back for not procrastinating. I thought about putting it off, but instead I sat down and did it and didn't have to worry about it for the rest of the weekend. What a nice feeling.

Word of the Week: coalesce

Coalesce: v. 1. to grow together, as the halves of a broken bone 2. to unite or merge into a single body

This is one of those words that I thought I knew, but looking at the dictionary gave me a completely different perspective.

The vines coalesced into one thick branch.

#28 Fix towel racks in the apartment

This one is pretty simple. And pretty easy. And not exciting. And, yet I failed to do it for the 7 months we lived here. I put it on my list not realizing how quickly we would be moving out of our apartment.

Yesterday, as I was going through all the junk that was under the guest bed, I found one of those tiny screwdrivers for my glasses. This was the tool I had misplaced, but the tool I needed for the towel racks.

Voila, a few minutes later, the towel racks were back to being secured to the walls. Too bad in less than a week I will be moving and will be enjoying properly fastened towel racks in a much smaller apartment.

#30 Make a Cherry Pie For Mom

This past Sunday was my Mom’s birthday. For this occasion, I decided to make her a cherry pie. Now, I don’t like pie. In fact, I don’t like baked fruit of any kind and I don’t think piecrust tastes all that amazing. So, this was my first venture towards making a cherry pie.

I made two big mistakes: used cherry pie filling instead of making my own filling from canned cherries and didn’t cook the piecrust quite long enough.

I tried my hand at a lattice top—with mediocre results:

And then, my sister came home and brought my Mom a present as well: Another cherry pie as well!

Well, pie is not my forte, but maybe I will get better at it. :)

Word of the Week: spumescent

Spumescent: (adj) frothing or foaming

The spumescent fountain was quite a spectacle.
